5 Design Trends That Will Be Big in 2018

We are now 2 weeks into 2018! Time to get the old out and be in with the new. The same logic applies to your home’s interior design. Now's the perfect time to update yourself with what’s hot and trendy for 2018. Here are a couple of things you should keep an eye out for this year in the world of interior design:

Lavender

"Millennial pink is morphing into lavender and lilac," says Nancy Fire, creative director of HGTV HOME. "People were sarcastic about millennial pink at the beginning, but it's being used to bring out beautiful, soft tones with accents that are deeper."

Brass

Whether you love it or hate it, brass is back and better than ever in the new year. The warm and subtle golden-brass tones adorn kitchen cabinets and living room furniture and shines as serveware and vintage-inspired light fixtures alike.

Terracotta

This shade is in the bronze family, with a touch of orange and a hint of red. The result is a rich earthy color. It looks beautiful on tactile materials such as textiles—especially bed linen—along with ceramics and tiles. For the brave, it would look equally impressive on an architectural feature in a room. Paint brands Valspar and Jotun agree, adding rusty shades such as Rustic Wicker and Norwegian Wood to their 2018 color cards, respectively.

High Contrast Pallets

"I'm really into saturated color with white to balance it out so it doesn’t feel over-whelming," says Joanna Gaines, the star of Fixer Upper. If you’re having trouble picking out a bold color, Gaines recommends green, because it's found in nature and is timeless.

Wabi-Sabi

Wabi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection. In home design, this translates to handmade or hand-painted items including rough linens and pottery. The result? A deeply personal, organic aesthetic.
