The kitchen is the hub of the family home, the kitchen is a place to gather, cook, eat, laugh, do homework or pay bills, and share in special moments together. When space is limited, it takes smart planning to create a multi-functional and aesthetically appealing kitchen. A well designed kitchen has minimal clutter and maximum efficiency. Whether you're redecorating or totally remodeling, here are a few ideas for small kitchen spaces.
Contain Kitchen Clutter with Trays And Baskets
Baskets and trays are very useful, not just for carrying
things but also to use for organization when you are
limited on drawer space. Using light colors also make
it feel more spacious.
Open Shelving
One of my favorite personal touches that can be
applied in a kitchen is open shelving. The shelving is
useful for storage and makes the space look larger
than it really is.
Hang Your Pots and Pans
Bulky pots and pans can take up a lot of valuable space
in your kitchen. A pot rack free's up a lot of cupboard
space and is relatively cheap to buy. You can either get
one that hangs from the ceiling and over a kitchen island,
or one that hangs off the wall.
Opt For Glass Cabinet Doors
One of the simplest ways of "expanding" a kitchen is
incorporating glass, which lets you see through the
objects, enhancing the feeling of spaciousness. Try a glass
counter or tabletop, or glass door cabinets. Glass kitchen
doors, to the outside world or to the next room, can also
visually expand the space.
Play With Incandescent Lighting
Like any other room, your small kitchen needs a combination
of task and atmospheric lighting. Fluorescent lighting, which
casts a bluish light, impacts the colorization of objects in the
room, including the food, is frequently found in kitchens. To
counteract it, consider hanging pendant lights that light your
eating area in a more appetizing color. Use incandescent
lighting (which is more yellowish) underneath the upper cabinets
shining down on the countertops. Ceiling incandescent spot
lighting, when directed at the cabinetry, will increase the
shadowing of the space and give the area greater visual
movement through light and dark contrast as opposed to cabinetry
simply shown in the blue-tones of fluorescent lighting.
